RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE USE OF HORMONAL CONTRACEPTION WITH BREASTFEEDING DURATION MOTHERS IN DISTRICT OF 30 ILIR PALEMBANG

Abstract


Background: Breast milk is the most perfect baby food. Exclusive breastfeeding until six months have passed with a duration of up to two years. This relates to the period of rapidly growing brain cells first baby and will not be repeated during the growth period. The importance of breastfeeding for infants and toddlers should not be hampered due to lack of milk production that affect breastfeeding into a short period of time due to the use of hormonal contraceptives on breast-feeding mothers.

Method: Descriptive study with cross sectional approach. Population studies conducted in 80 lactating mothers who have children aged 2-5 years. Data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire method were subsequently analyzed by univariate and bivariate.

Result : The results showed that there was no significant correlation between hormonal contraceptive use by duration of breastfeeding (p value = 0.526, 95% CI 0.498-7.902).

Conclusion : The use of hormonal contraceptives did not affect the duration of breastfeeding
