PERCEPTION DIETARY FIBER CONSUMPTION HABITS IN YOUTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CITY OF PALEMBANG IN 2013

Abstract


Background : Teens today are likely to consume fewer vegetables and fruits, but increase the number of soft drinks consumption, high-fat foods, and foods high in sugar. One's eating habits, including perceptions of vegetables and fruits is influenced by knowledge, gender, body shape imaging (body image), the availability of fruits and vegetables at home, and the family diet.

Method :Using a qualitative approach to the informant as many as 24 people. Purposive sampling technique sampling. Data analysis process by reducing, summarizing, taking the essence of the data, then presented the form of a narrative, quotations, and transferred in the form of a matrix .

Result : The results showed that adolescents Palembang, particularly women, to consume less fiber than a serving junior high and youth should have a lower knowledge of high school teens. Fiber consumption habits in adolescents is closely related to the supervision of a parent either directly or advice they provide as well as the availability of fruits and vegetables at home.

Conclusion : In conclusion Palembang teens know the term 'fiber' of parents, teachers, media, and peers. Although every teenager has a dream physique, but does not affect grain consumption habits, but activities outside the home, peer influence, and the availability of fruits and vegetables at home that affect it. Most teens do not have the habit of Palembang family meals that make teenagers more rare to get advice from parents about good diet.
