FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM ANALYSIS AT BUILDING AND ENVIRONMENT IN INDERALAYA CAMPUS OF SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY 2013

Abstract


Background : Safety of the occupants inside the building and its environment should be a major consideration especially of the fire hazard. To protect from the fire hazards, the technical requirements of the fire protection system should be met.

Method : Design used in this study is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. In the selection of informants using the snowball sampling technique, informants in this study amounted to seven people and for the selection of the building using purposive sampling.

Result : The water is taken from retention ponds and Water Treatment Proces. There is already an exit but still do not have the sign yet. Testing of fire resistant building structure had not been done. Fire extinguisher only found in the rektorat buildings and chemical laboratories, hydrant and siemense conection only found in rusunawa buildings, alarms and fire detector only provided in clinics whereas there is no sprinkler at all. There is no written policy for the fire prevention and suppression. There is not a fire team. Checks on the fire protection system has not been done regularly.

Conclusion : In fulfillment of the requirements of the fire protection system there are still many who have not met, it is necessary to include the fulfillment of fire extinguisher, hydrants, alarms, detectors, sprinklers and be checked periodically as soon as re-establishment of the fire team.
